How to Prepare for Your First Brazilian Wax—the Wax Queen Way

Thinking about booking your first Brazilian wax—but feeling a little nervous?
Take a deep breath. After more than 25 years as a licensed esthetician specializing in Brazilian waxing, I can promise you this: whatever you’re worried about, I’ve probably heard it before. There is no judgment in my treatment room, and you never need to apologize for your body, your hair, or feeling nervous.
A comfortable first Brazilian wax begins before you arrive. Here is exactly how I want you to prepare for your first Brazilian wax—the Wax Queen way.

Start With 14 Days of Hair Growth
If you are currently shaving, allow the hair to grow for approximately 14 days before your appointment.
This gives the hair enough length for the wax to grip properly without allowing it to become excessively long or dense. Arriving with the right amount of growth helps me work more efficiently and can make your experience much more comfortable.
Please do not shave, trim, or “clean things up” right before your appointment. If you are unsure whether you have enough growth, leave it alone and let me assess it.
Gently Exfoliate 24 to 48 Hours Before Your Wax
Gentle exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells surrounding the hair and can make it easier for the wax to remove the hair cleanly.
I recommend exfoliating the area 24 to 48 hours before your appointment. A gentle dry brush or non-irritating body exfoliant is usually enough. Avoid aggressive scrubbing, strong acids, or experimenting with a brand-new product right before your wax.
The goal is smooth, healthy skin—not freshly irritated skin.
Skip the Caffeine Before Your Appointment
I know this may be the hardest instruction on the list, but try to wait until after your appointment for your coffee, energy drink, or pre-workout.
Caffeine can leave some people feeling more stimulated and sensitive, which may make the waxing sensation feel more intense. Have some water, eat a light meal, and reward yourself with coffee afterward.
Come Clean, Dry, and Product-Free
Shower normally before your appointment if your schedule allows, but avoid applying lotions, oils, powders, deodorizing sprays, or other products to the bikini area.
Do not worry if you are coming directly from work or another obligation. I provide time and supplies for you to freshen up privately before we begin.
And please remember: normal bodies are normal. You do not need to feel embarrassed or apologize for anything.
Wear Something Comfortable
Loose pants, a flowy dress, or soft, breathable clothing will feel much better after your wax than tight jeans or restrictive leggings.
Your skin may be temporarily sensitive, so give it a little room to breathe. Comfortable underwear—or skipping it beneath a loose dress—is completely up to you.
Tell Me About Medications and Skin Treatments
Certain medications and topical products can make the skin more fragile or reactive. Before your service, please tell me if you are using prescription retinoids, acne medications, strong exfoliating products, or anything else that may affect your skin.
You should also let me know about allergies, recent procedures, active irritation, sunburn, open skin, or any health condition that may affect healing.
Never stop a prescribed medication to receive a wax. If you are uncertain whether waxing is appropriate for you, check with your healthcare provider before booking.
Plan a Quiet Little Window Afterward
For approximately 24 hours after your Brazilian wax, avoid anything that creates excessive heat, friction, sweat, or exposure to bacteria around freshly waxed skin.
That means postponing:
Intense workouts
Hot tubs, saunas, and very hot baths
Swimming
Tanning
Tight clothing
Sexual activity
Heavily fragranced products
Your follicles are temporarily more vulnerable immediately after waxing. Giving the area time to settle can help reduce redness, irritation, and post-wax bumps.
What Actually Happens During a Brazilian Wax?
You will be given privacy to undress from the waist down and get comfortable on the treatment table. During the service, I will guide you through each position and explain what I need you to do. You never have to guess.
A Brazilian wax removes the hair from the front, bikini line, labia, and between the cheeks. You may choose to remove everything or leave a small strip or triangle in front.
I work quickly and strategically, using professional technique to minimize unnecessary discomfort while protecting the health of your skin.
Your First Wax Is the Beginning
Your first appointment gives us a clean starting point, but the best waxing results develop through consistency.
For smoother, finer, and more predictable regrowth, I recommend returning every four to five weeks and avoiding shaving between appointments. Hair grows in different cycles, so your results will continue to improve as we get those cycles onto a consistent schedule.
The Wax Queen Difference
Brazilian waxing is one of the most technically demanding waxing services. The experience, speed, and technique of your wax specialist matter.
I have spent decades refining my approach and helping women feel safe, comfortable, and confident during an intimate service. My goal is not simply to remove hair. It is to give you an elevated, professional experience in a completely judgment-free space.
Your first Brazilian wax does not have to become one of those horror stories you have heard. With the right preparation—and the right person performing your service—it can be easier than you imagined.
I hope you found this helpful and feel prepared to have your first Brazilian wax!
