First of all, if your research for getting a Brazilian Wax has involved watching Youtube videos, I can promise you that you're now freaked out for nothing! Remember that those are posted for entertainment and to get views!!! It's 100% not typical or normal to scream or jump up off the table. That's not to say that a Brazilian is pain free, we are after all ripping the hair out of your body, but if you come in prepared, it really is tolerable!
I always say that your Brazilian is only as painful as the PREP you DIDN'T DO!!!
Keep in mind that some of us have a naturally high pain tolerance, some don't- and some of us also have sensitive skin. This is what makes everyone's experience different altogether... Another thing to remember is that after your first wax, you'll see a dramatic decrease in the amount of hair that grows back & the hair itself will thin out dramatically. These two things combined make each subsequent wax less painful, until you get to the point where you barely feel it at all. My regular clients are fully waxed and out the door in 15 minutes- and we spend the entire time catching up on life!
Here's Your Before Wax Prep List:
Make sure that you have the proper hair length. The best way to make sure you have the perfect length is to do a full shave or buzz down (and by full- I mean every area that will be waxed- including the inner labia) and then allow for 14 days of regrowth. If the Esthetician you're going to book with is very busy then you want t0 figure out when to do your shave or buzz down based on when they can get you in.
Exfoliate the bikini area 24 hours before your appointment,
If you know that you have sensitive skin, you should take an antihistamine 45 minutes before your appointment to help prevent an allergic reaction.
Take a pain reliever 45 minutes before your appointment (you want to give the pain reliever enough time to start working).
NO CAFFEINE BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT! Caffeine makes your skin super sensitized and that means that your skin will STING MORE.
Be HYDRATED! Dry/Dehydrated skin will cause the wax to stick more to your skin than it should, making it more painful than it should be.
If your wax will be with me, then you should know that I purposely keep my treatment room dimly lit. I understand how intimidating it is to be half naked in front of someone you've never met before, so the room is dark & I use a ring light to see. You'll obviously need to be nude from the waist down, and no, I don't have clients use those paper panties. ( They just get in the way and make it harder for me to do my job.) I'll explain what the typical poses your legs will be in to help me get where I need to go, and also where you can expect to feel it the most vs. the least. Then we'll get started! I promise it will be over before you know it, and you'll be telling me that it wasn't as painful as you thought it would be at all!
